## What Makes Chinese Mecha Models Different?
Chinese mecha model kits have exploded in popularity over the past five years. Unlike traditional Japanese Gunpla, Chinese mecha kits focus on original designs inspired by Eastern mythology, sci-fi, and video game aesthetics.
### The Big Three Chinese Mecha Brands
**MoDongQi (模动奇)** — The gold standard for original mecha designs. Their Ancient Beasts series reimagines the Four Symbols (Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, Black Tortoise) as mechanized warriors. Every kit features pre-painted panels, die-cast metal joints, and snap-fit assembly.
**Motor Nuclear** — Known for ultra-detailed inner frames and layered armor. Their kits are the most complex to build but reward you with museum-grade shelf presence.
**In Era+** — Budget-friendly entry point. Smaller scale (1/100) but surprisingly detailed for the price. Perfect for beginners who want to test the waters.
### What You Need to Get Started
You don't need a full workshop. Here's the minimum:
- **Nipper**: Single-blade for clean cuts (GodHand or Dspiae)
- **Tweezers**: For applying decals
- **Panel liner**: Optional, but makes details pop on pre-painted kits
Chinese kits don't require glue or paint — everything is pre-colored and snap-fit. You can build straight out of the box and get a display-ready result.
### How to Choose Your First Kit
Start with a 1/100 scale kit from In Era+ or a simpler MoDongQi release. Avoid Motor Nuclear until you've built 2-3 kits — their complexity can be overwhelming for first-timers.
The MoDongQi Azure Dragon is our top recommendation for beginners: 45+ articulation points, clear instructions in English, and a forgiving snap-fit design that still looks incredible on the shelf.
